今なお、ピアノを学ぶ者にとってほぼ必修曲といえるほど広く演奏される作品で、懐かしく感じる方も多いかと思います。この作品は、J.S.バッハが息子ヴィルヘルム・フリーデマンをはじめとする鍵盤学習者のためにまとめた、教育的な目的を持つ作品群《インヴェンションとシンフォニア》（BWV 772–801）の第1曲、BWV 772です。

J.S.バッハは、これらの曲を通して音楽の基本的な技術や美しさを伝えようとしました。この「インヴェンション第1番」は、シンプルな構造の中に二声の対位法（2つの独立した旋律を同時に演奏し、それらが調和しながら進行する音楽の技法）が息づいており、対位法的な思考を学ぶための理想的な作品のひとつとされています。

Still widely performed today, this work remains almost an essential piece of study for piano students, bringing a sense of familiarity and nostalgia to many who have encountered it during their musical education. It is the first piece of J.S. Bach's collection Inventions and Sinfonias (BWV 772–801), a series of educational works prepared for keyboard instruction, originally intended for his son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and other students.

Through the Inventions, Bach sought to reveal both the fundamental techniques of music and its deeper beauty. The First Invention is a masterpiece of two-voice counterpoint, where two independent melodies unfold in dialogue and harmony. Despite its simplicity, it offers an ideal introduction to the principles of contrapuntal thinking.

For Bach, music was not merely a matter of technical skill, but a realm where thought, structure, and imagination come together. Even within this small work of only two melodic voices, one can discover a remarkable sense of balance, refinement, and architectural beauty.

Looking at the autograph manuscript, the carefully arranged notes reveal Bach's profound concentration and creative process.
