作品解説：19世紀の郷愁が描いた「奇跡の夜」
この一枚に描かれているのは、実際には存在しなかった「夢の晩餐」です。舞台は、オペラ《魔笛》の台本作者として知られるエマヌエル・シカネーダーの邸宅。モーツァルトを囲むのは、交響曲の父ハイドン、オペラ改革者グルック、宮廷楽長サリエリ、といった、18世紀末ウィーンを彩った巨匠たちです。

史実に照らせば、グルックはすでに没し、ハイドンはロンドン滞在中。この顔合わせは本来あり得ないものですが、そこには当時のウィーンが持っていた「芸術家を引き寄せる磁力」と、人と文化が自然に交わる土壌が象徴されています。

特筆すべきは、モーツァルトにそっぽを向いて座る淑女、アロイジア・ランゲ。彼女はかつてモーツァルトが心を寄せた女性であり、後に義姉となった人物です。若き日のモーツァルトの感情や人間的な揺らぎまでもが、この優雅な一場面に静かに織り込まれています。19世紀の人々が音楽の黄金時代に寄せた憧れが形となった作品です。

Description
This 1880 engraving depicts an “impossible” dream banquet bringing together leading figures of late eighteenth-century Vienna’s musical world. Set at the residence of Emanuel Schikaneder, the scene presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart alongside figures such as Joseph Haydn, Christoph Willibald Gluck, and Antonio Salieri.

Although historically impossible—as Gluck had already died and Haydn was in London at the time—the composition reflects nineteenth-century nostalgia for Vienna’s so-called golden age. A particularly poignant detail is Aloysia Lange, Mozart’s former love and sister-in-law, shown turning her back on him—a subtle reference to their complex relationship. The work stands as a lasting tribute to the human stories and cultural imagination surrounding Mozart.
