Joseph Haydn の《ディヴェルティメント ト長調 Hob. IV:3》（通称《ロンドン・トリオ第3番》）は、1794年、ロンドン滞在中に手がけられた作品です。2本のフルートとチェロによる編成は、軽やかで透明感のある響きを生み出し、ハイドン晩年の室内楽に見られる穏やかで洗練された趣を伝えています。

この頃のハイドンは、ロンドンでの成功によって経済的にも安定し、充実した創作活動を続けていました。作品には、親しみやすく明快な旋律とともに、各声部が互いに応答しながら進んでゆく室内楽ならではの魅力が見られます。フルートの軽やかな動きとチェロの穏やかな支えとの調和からは、ハイドンらしい温かさと端正な構成感もうかがえます。

自筆譜には、作曲家自身の筆致や細かな書き込みが残されており、創作の過程を今に伝えています。譜面の随所には、音楽が形づくられてゆく静かな時間の流れが感じられます。

Joseph Haydn’s Divertimento in G Major, Hob. IV:3, commonly known as “London Trio No. 3,” was composed during his stay in London in 1794. Written for two flutes and cello, the work is marked by a light and transparent sonority that reflects the refined character of Haydn’s late chamber music.

At this time, Haydn had achieved considerable success in London and was able to devote himself to composition with greater freedom and stability. The music combines clear and approachable melodic writing with the subtle interplay that is characteristic of chamber music. The balance between the graceful movement of the flutes and the gentle support of the cello conveys the warmth and clarity often associated with Haydn’s style.

The autograph manuscript preserves the composer’s own handwriting and detailed markings, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind the work. Throughout the score, one senses the quiet progression through which the music gradually took shape.

Although Haydn is widely known as the “Father of the Symphony,” he also played an important role in the development of chamber music. His balanced sense of form and natural handling of harmony became an important foundation for later Classical music and continue to be appreciated today.
