ロベルト・シューマンの妻として広く知られているクララ・シューマンは、19世紀において最も高名なピアニストの一人です。プレリュードとフーガといえば、バッハやブクステフーデなど、バロック時代の作曲家が多くの作品を残した伝統的な形式です。クララもまた、この伝統的な形式に向き合い、自らの音楽表現を追求しました。 クララは若い頃からバッハを学び、深い敬意を抱いていたことが知られています。その影響を受けて書かれた「プレリュードとフーガ 嬰ヘ短調」は、バロックの厳格な対位法を取り入れつつ、ロマン派特有の感情豊かな表現を見せる作品です。 この曲は演奏機会が少なく、広く知られている作品ではありませんが、クララの作曲技術と感性が反映された、貴重な一例といえるのではないでしょうか。

Clara Schumann, widely known as the wife of Robert Schumann, was one of the most distinguished pianists of the 19th century.

Prelude and fugue are traditional musical forms in which composers of the Baroque era, such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude, created many important works. Clara also engaged with this tradition and pursued her own musical expression through it.

Clara studied Bach from an early age and is known to have held deep admiration for his music. Influenced by this tradition, her “Prelude and Fugue in F-sharp minor” incorporates the rigorous contrapuntal techniques of the Baroque while also revealing the expressive emotional qualities characteristic of the Romantic era.

This work is performed relatively infrequently and remains less widely known, yet it represents a valuable example of Clara’s compositional skill and artistic sensitivity.

Please note that the mark resembling a stain in the lower right corner of the manuscript is part of the original autograph manuscript.
